The Best Vermont Flowers for your Spring Wedding

Our post today is focused on one of the most exciting seasons in Vermont. Well honestly, they are all quite amazing in different ways, but spring is what inspired our name - Flora Vita. Vita means 'life' in Italian, and is an ode to those very first flowers we see in spring. After a long Vermont winter, those first blooms always give us such life and a renewed sense of joy for our flowering season.

If your wedding is in late April, May or in the first few weeks of June, there are some absolutely stunning blooms that we grow here, and are commonly grown by Vermont flower farmers.

We have to start out with an absolute icon....

Peonies

Peonies are known for their endless ruffly petals and sweet scent. There is a very short window when you can expect to have Peonies bloom in Vermont. For us (St. Albans, Zone 5a) it's usually the last week of may through the 2nd or 3rd week of June. But they are such an amazing wedding flower! They are stunning in a bridal bouquet, make a statement in an arch and will have your guests mesmerized in a centerpiece.

In our garden we have white, pink and coral peonies but you can find a beautiful range of colors and varieties throughout our Vermont flower farms.

Ranunculus

Vermont grown ranunculus

Ranunculus have become a staple in weddings, and it's really easy to see why. Their seemingly endless petals are adored, and they come in a wide variety of colors, from whites, to oranges, yellow, reds, pinks, burgundy, purples and patterns like these lovely Striata ranunculus that we grew a few years ago.

If you want locally-grown ranunculus, you can find them in May in June. They don't like to grow in hot conditions, so once summer is near, they retire their growing efforts.

Anemone

Purple anemone

Anemones are a lovely, quite hardy flower and have a similar growing season as ranunculus, usually late April - early June.

They also come in a range of colors, like this vivid violet above! Most people are familiar with the Panda anemone, with floaty white petals and it's black center. Not too many Vermont growers have them, be we do grow them here in our flower garden.

They are also available most times of the year as a wholesale flower, so can be an option as wedding flowers in VT for most seasons.

Poppies

Pink Poppies

Blooming locally in May and June, poppies are a stunning choice for spring weddings in Vermont. Their delicate, paper-thin petals catch the light and move beautifully with the slightest breeze, adding an airy, almost ethereal quality to wedding flowers. Poppies bring a sense of spontaneity and natural elegance that feels perfectly at home in a spring garden celebration.

Whether featured as a focal bloom or incorporated into an organic, free-flowing bouquet, poppies add texture, movement, and a touch of artistry to floral designs. Their fleeting beauty makes them especially meaningful for weddings—each bloom feels intentional, romantic, and truly of the season.

Sweet Pea

Sweet peas are one of those flowers that instantly capture your heart. Their delicate, ruffled petals and intoxicating fragrance make them a favorite for spring weddings, especially here in Vermont. Blooming locally in May and June, sweet peas thrive in our cooler spring temperatures, making them a surprisingly hardy choice for early-season celebrations. As a “floater” flower in bouquets, they add softness, movement, and a romantic, garden-inspired feel that’s hard to replicate with any other bloom.

Available in a wide range of hues—from soft pastels to richer tones, both naturally grown and thoughtfully dyed—sweet peas blend beautifully into almost any spring wedding palette. Whether tucked into a bridal bouquet or woven throughout arrangements, they bring an effortless elegance and a subtle scent that guests will remember long after the day has passed.

To wrap it all up, choosing locally grown spring flowers is one of the most beautiful ways to celebrate Vermont wedding flowers. Seasonal blooms not only look their best, but they also tell a story—of the land, the time of year, and the care that goes into growing something truly special. At Flora Vita, we’re passionate about cultivating many of these spring favorites right here in Vermont, including peonies, anemone, and ranunculus, so your wedding flowers feel fresh, intentional, and deeply connected to the place you’re celebrating. By embracing what’s in season, you’re creating floral designs that are romantic, meaningful, and unmistakably Vermont.
